I created SCFA™ because I know what it feels like to become a medical parent without a roadmap.
I am a mom of three children, all of whom live with chronic physical or mental health conditions. Each diagnosis turned our lives upside down. I had to adapt to complex care needs while working full time and managing everyday parenting, but there was no roadmap for caring for myself.
I became burned out, sick, and unable to continue my career in the way I once had. Over time, I realized my story was not unique. Many parents and caregivers are carrying an invisible load that is emotionally, physically, and practically unsustainable.
SCFA™ exists to help caregivers care for themselves before they reach collapse. It brings together lived experience, health-system knowledge, research, and practical self-care tools in a format designed for real families under real pressure.
Jen Perzow brings more than 20 years of experience in health policy, program development, implementation, and evaluation, along with 15+ years of lived experience as a medical parent. Her work is grounded in the belief that caregiver well-being is not optional. It is part of good care.
The long-term vision for SCFA™ is to improve pediatric outcomes by making caregiver support a standard part of pediatric care, so parents are not left to manage the emotional and physical toll of caregiving alone.
